Our team continues to grow

We’re delighted to welcome four fantastic new starters to the Carston ETL team this autumn!

Some have joined us as part of a university placement, fresh from graduation or through an apprenticeship route, but each of them bring equal amounts of ambition and a real passion for the profession..

Here’s a chance to get to know Joseph, Cerys, Yashraj and Arthur, from where they come from, what drives them and what they enjoy outside of the office.

Economists had predicted no cut until the next meeting in September. The Bank explained that cutting rates from 5.25%, which had been in place for over a year, was “appropriate to slightly reduce the degree of policy restrictiveness”. It added that “the impact of past external shocks has diminished, and there has been some progress in moderating inflation persistence risks”.

Where are you from

“I'm originally from Bristol and lived there my whole life before moving to Cardiff for university. My family still live in Bristol, so I try to visit them whenever I get the chance.”

Joseph Adams, Accounts Assistant (Placement Student)

“I grew up in Cardiff, living really close to the city centre. Cardiff has that perfect mix of beautiful landscapes and lots of personal and social opportunities.”

Cerys Wellbeloved, Accounts Assistant

“I'm Cardiff born and bred, the best city in the world!”

Yashraj Singh, Audit and Accounts Assistant

“I grew up in Cardiff and have always been proud to call it home.”

Arthur Haines, Accounts Assistant

What’s your educational background?

“I’m currently studying Business Economics at Cardiff University. One of my favourite modules has been econometrics, so I’m excited to apply more of those analytical and mathematical skills in a real work environment here at Carston ETL.”

Joseph Adams, Accounts Assistant (Placement Student)

“I studied Accounting at Cardiff University. It gave me a solid foundation in financial principles and helped me build a range of transferable skills that I use every day in my role now.”

Cerys Wellbeloved, Accounts Assistant

“I took a slightly less traditional route. After studying maths, business and economics in sixth form, I decided not to go to university and instead started working straight away as a school leaver apprentice. That gave me over two and a half years of hands-on experience in audit before joining Carston ETL, where I’m now studying towards my ACCA.”

Yashraj Singh, Audit and Accounts Assistant

“I studied Accounting and Finance at UWE Bristol and during my course I was lucky enough to spend a placement year at Carston ETL. That experience gave me invaluable insight into what it’s really like to work in accountancy, and it played a big part in confirming that this was the right path for me.”

Arthur Haines, Accounts Assistant

What are your hobbies / interests?

“Rugby is a big part of my life - I’ve played for my home club since I was six years old! I’m also a huge fan of other sports and I love watching tennis and F1 on weekends.”

Joseph Adams, Accounts Assistant (Placement Student)

“I enjoy staying active and I’m often at the gym, out running or trying new fitness classes. I also love reading, especially fiction.”

Cerys Wellbeloved, Accounts Assistant

“I like to keep fit, whether that’s in the gym, playing football or going on long walks with my dog. I’m also into cooking (my go-to dish is a Thai green curry), reading and spending time with friends and family.”

Yashraj Singh, Audit and Accounts Assistant

“I’m a big football fan and support Pontypridd United in the Welsh Football Leagues. I also play football myself when I can and enjoy taking long walks with my dogs to unwind and stay active.”

Arthur Haines, Accounts Assistant

Any fun facts?

“I come from a big extended family! In my immediate family I have one brother and one sister, but both my parents have three siblings, all with children. Family gatherings are very enjoyable since I love seeing all my cousins.”

Joseph Adams, Accounts Assistant (Placement Student)

“Every Saturday I volunteer at a local theatre school, teaching drama classes to 3–6-year-olds. I have always loved theatre, so the theatre school helps me stay connected whilst also challenging me with something new every week.”

Cerys Wellbeloved, Accounts Assistant

“I play the Indian drum – the dhol – and have performed professionally at Asian weddings, events and festivals. It’s a huge part of my cultural identity and a really fun creative outlet. You might catch me tapping out rhythms at my desk sometimes (sorry in advance!).”

Yashraj Singh, Audit and Accounts Assistant

“I’m a fluent Welsh speaker – in fact, university was the first time I’d ever been taught in English.”

Arthur Haines, Accounts Assistant

What are your goals?

“To gain as much knowledge in accountancy as I can at Carston ETL, embracing all challenges and opportunities. This will help me in the future when I finish my degree and move into full time work.”

Joseph Adams, Accounts Assistant (Placement Student)

“To continue improving my skills in accounting whilst working towards my ACCA qualification.”

Cerys Wellbeloved, Accounts Assistant

“To complete my studies and become a fully chartered accountant, further develop my knowledge and skills in this industry and apply and provide value to my firm and clients that I work with. I aim to confidently lead and manage audits in the future and be a key part of this organisation.”

Yashraj Singh, Audit and Accounts Assistant

“Become ACCA qualified and develop my accounting skills whilst also creating connections with clients and colleagues along the way.”

Arthur Haines, Accounts Assistant

We’re thrilled to have Joseph, Cerys, Yashraj and Arthur on board and we’re excited to support them as they develop their career and contribute to life at Carston ETL!
